Chevening Scholarship 2027: the dates that matter
Applications open on 4 August 2026 and close on 6 October 2026, both at 11:00 UTC. The programme’s own timeline is blunt about the cut-off: “You will not be able to access the online application system after this date.”
Everything after that runs long. Eligibility sifting begins in October. Independent reading committees assess applications from mid-October through January 2027. Shortlisted candidates hear in mid-February 2027, interviews at British embassies run March to April, and results land from mid-June. The final gate is 8 July 2027, when you must submit at least one unconditional UK university offer.
Read that last date twice. The scholarship does not find you a course.
What to build before applications open
You have four weeks before the portal opens. Spend them on the parts that cannot be rushed. Confirm you meet the work experience requirement and count the hours honestly. Choose three eligible UK master’s courses and know why each one, specifically, follows from what you have already done.
Line up two referees now and tell them the timeline. Then draft the four essays: leadership, networking, studying in the UK, career plan. Write them ugly first. A Chevening essay fails when it describes a job rather than a decision, and every applicant needs several passes to notice the difference.
Where strong candidates sink
Linh, a communications officer in Hanoi with seven years behind her, wrote four polished essays about her employer’s achievements. Not one of them said what she personally decided, risked or changed. She was sifted out before interview. The reading committee is looking for the applicant, not the organisation.
The other reliable failure is the offer deadline. Candidates treat 8 July 2027 as a formality, apply to two competitive courses in March, and receive conditional offers that never turn unconditional in time. Apply to your universities in parallel with Chevening, not after it. Keep one realistic course on the list.
