Overview
Egypt — the land of the Pharaohs — is one of the world’s most iconic destinations, home to the Pyramids of Giza, the Nile, and a rich 5,000-year-old civilisation. Beyond its legendary history and tourism, Egypt is also a growing destination for students, workers, and investors from across Africa.

- Part-time work generally not permitted on student visa.
💼 Work Visa / Work Permit
- Foreign nationals require a Work Permit from the Ministry of Manpower before commencing employment.

- Requirements: Employment contract, valid passport, passport photos, academic credentials (attested and legalised), police clearance, medical certificate (HIV & TB tests), residency application form, visa fee.
- Work permits initially issued for 1 year, renewable annually.
- In-demand professions: Teachers (English-language schools), IT specialists, engineers, healthcare workers, oil & gas professionals (Egypt has a significant energy sector).
🏠 Investment & Residency
- Golden Residency (since 2019): Egypt offers a 3-year (USD 100,000 investment) or 5-year (USD 200,000 investment) renewable residency for investors purchasing Egyptian real estate or depositing funds in Egyptian banks.
- Applications via the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI).
👨👩👧 Family / Dependent Residency
- Residents with valid Egyptian Residence Permits can sponsor immediate family (spouse and dependent children).
- Documents: Sponsor’s residence card, marriage certificate (apostilled and translated to Arabic), children’s birth certificates, proof of financial means, accommodation lease.
🏛️ Citizenship
- By Birth: Egypt follows jus sanguinis. Children born to an Egyptian father are automatically Egyptian citizens regardless of birthplace. Children born to an Egyptian mother and non-Egyptian father may apply for citizenship.
- By Investment: Since 2019, foreign nationals can obtain Egyptian citizenship through a significant investment: USD 250,000 non-refundable deposit or USD 375,000 in Egyptian real estate. Subject to security approval and Presidential decree.
- By Naturalization: Requires 10 years of continuous legal residence (5 years for spouses of Egyptian nationals). Must speak Arabic, renounce prior citizenship, be financially stable, and be of good moral character. Rarely granted outside of the investment pathway.
- Dual Citizenship: Egypt generally does not permit dual citizenship. Naturalized citizens must renounce prior nationality.
