🎓 Student / Study Visa
- Must secure admission to a UAE-accredited institution (KHDA-approved in Dubai, CAA-approved in Abu Dhabi).
- Top Universities: University of Dubai, American University in Dubai, Heriot-Watt Dubai, Murdoch University Dubai, Middlesex University Dubai, NYU Abu Dhabi.
- Process: University provides entry permit → student enters → applies for Student Residence Visa at GDRFA/ICA within 60 days of arrival. Medical test required.
- Requirements: Acceptance letter, valid passport, passport photos, medical fitness certificate (done in UAE — Emirates ID and residence), financial proof, academic transcripts.
- Student visa tied to institution. Can work part-time (20 hrs/week) with No Objection Letter from university.
- Duration: 1 year, renewable for duration of studies.
💼 Employment / Work Visa
- UAE work visas are employer-sponsored.
- Process: Employer obtains entry permit → employee enters UAE → undergoes medical test → applies for Emirates ID & residence visa (stamped in passport).
- Skilled Worker Categories: IT, healthcare, engineering, finance, hospitality, construction, education.
- Requirements: Signed employment contract, passport, passport photos, attested educational certificates (MOFA-attested and UAE Embassy-attested in Nigeria), medical fitness test, biometrics.
- Work permit validity: 2 years (renewable). Can change employers (6-month ban abolished for most categories since 2022).
- Nigerian Certificate Attestation: Certificates must be attested: 1) NYSC/WAEC/NECO, 2) Federal Ministry of Education, 3) Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria, 4) UAE Embassy Nigeria.

- 5 or 10-year renewable residency visa for investors, entrepreneurs, professionals, and outstanding students.

- Documents: Marriage certificate (attested), children’s birth certificates, sponsor’s residence visa and Emirates ID, salary certificate, accommodation lease.
🏛️ Citizenship (UAE)
- By Birth: UAE follows strict jus sanguinis. Only children of Emirati fathers are citizens by birth. There is virtually no pathway to citizenship by birth on UAE soil for foreigners.
- By Exceptional Grant: UAE announced in 2021 that citizenship may be granted to select investors, doctors, engineers, artists, scientists, and exceptional talents — at the discretion of the UAE leadership. This is not a standard application process.
- By Naturalization: General naturalization is practically unavailable. The UAE does not have a standard naturalization pathway for long-term residents.
- Practical Alternative — Long-Term Residence: The Golden Visa (10 years) provides a stable, long-term residence option without citizenship.
