- Requirements: Valid passport (min. 6 months beyond stay), return ticket, proof of accommodation, sufficient funds.
- Nigerian Citizens: Nigerians must apply for a Turkey sticker visa at the Turkish Embassy/Consulate or obtain a prior visa from a third country (UK, US, Schengen). Documents: passport, 2 photos, bank statement (min. 6 months), hotel booking, travel insurance, return ticket, employment/business letter, visa fee.
- Duration: Typically 30–90 days. Extensions available at provincial immigration offices.
🎓 Student / Study Visa
- Apply at the Turkish Embassy/Consulate in your home country before travelling.
- Must have a valid acceptance letter from a Turkish university or language school.
- Requirements: Acceptance/enrollment letter, valid passport, completed visa application form, 2 biometric photos, proof of financial means (bank statement or scholarship letter), health insurance, police clearance, academic transcripts (translated & certified), visa fee.
- Upon arrival, register at the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management within 30 days for a Student Residence Permit.
- Residence permit renewable annually. No work rights for language course students; undergrad/postgrad students can work part-time (max. 24 hrs/week).
- Turkish Government Scholarship (Türkiye Bursları): Free tuition + stipend + accommodation available to international students. Apply at https://www.turkiyeburslari.gov.tr.
💼 Work Visa
- Requires a job offer from a Turkish employer who will apply for a Work Permit on your behalf to the Ministry of Labor.
- Process: Employer applies for work permit → approved → employee applies for work visa at Turkish consulate → enters Turkey → registers for residence permit.
- Requirements: Signed employment contract, work permit approval document, valid passport, application form, 2 photos, health insurance, police clearance, attested academic/professional credentials.
- Work permits are typically issued for 1 year (first time), then 2 years, then 3 years.
- Independent/freelance work requires obtaining an independent work permit.
👨👩👧 Family / Dependent Visa
- Residents with valid Turkish residence permits can apply for a Family Residence Permit for spouse and children under 18.
- Documents: Sponsor’s residence permit and passport, marriage certificate (apostilled/attested), children’s birth certificates, proof of financial means, proof of health insurance, proof of accommodation.
🏛️ Citizenship
- By Birth: Turkey follows jus sanguinis. Children born to at least one Turkish parent are citizens regardless of birthplace. Children born in Turkey to foreign parents do not automatically receive citizenship.
- By Naturalization: Requires 5 years of continuous legal residence. Applicants must have no criminal record, sufficient income, basic Turkish language skills, and renounce prior citizenship (Turkey allows dual nationality in practice for some cases).
- By Investment: Fast-track citizenship available through: Real estate purchase (min. USD 400,000), bank deposit (USD 500,000), or capital investment (USD 500,000).
